Mission and objectives

The UNDP Tunisia Country Office (CO) leads UNDP’s support to Tunisia in the achievement of its national human and sustainable development objectives in alignment with its national Agenda 2030 and the Paris Climate Agreement commitments. UNDP Tunisia works on areas such as 1) inclusive growth and human development; 2) climate action, environment, energy and disaster risk reduction; and 3) support to inclusive political processes, responsive institutions, rule of law, social cohesion, electoral support and empowerment of women and youth. The UNDP Resident Representative (RR) leads and oversees the work of the Country Office, including a total of 140 staff and personnel and a delivery of around $11 million in programmatic support to Tunisia in 2020. The RR also leads UNDP Tunisia’s efforts in cultivating, building, and nurturing strategic relationships and alliances which are essential for advancing and successfully achieving the mission of UNDP. These relationships encompass a wide range and number of key constituencies and development partners, that includes the Government of Tunisia, existing and emerging donor countries, multilateral institutions such as the IFIs, the European Union, civil society, the private sector, foundations, academia and think tanks, the wider UN system, as well as global, regional and national media. As a trusted and impartial partner working at the intersection of social, economic and environmental agendas in Tunisia, UNDP plays a central role in supporting Tunisia’s progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and has supported the Government to develop and revise its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) for climate action.

Context

Anchored in the UNDP Country Programme for Tunisia (2021–2025), and building on the lessons learned from the SDG16+ portfolio (2018–2023), as well as a comprehensive analysis of vulnerabilities, stakeholder dynamics, and institutional capacities, UNDP — in collaboration with national partners — has developed a new portfolio titled “Governance as a Lever for SocioEconomic Development in Tunisia.”
This portfolio seeks to engage public institutions, civil society, and the private sector to leverage accountable and effective governance to accelerate socioeconomic development through a people centred, territorial approach focused on local solutions.
The approach is grounded in the belief that a just and corruption-free society — one where vulnerable population are actively included in shaping solutions through partnerships among public institutions, civil society, and the private sector — can serve as a catalyst for progress toward Tunisia’s Vision 2035 and its National Development Plan (2023–2025).
To support the government’s efforts in implementing planned structural reforms and addressing these critical challenges, the portfolio aims to contribute to sustainable development in Tunisia through three key outcomes. Among them is Outcome 1:
“Transparency and accountability are effectively strengthened to prevent corruption at both local and national levels and to promote fair and high-quality service delivery to the population.”

Task description

Under the direct supervision of the CTP of Outcome 1, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

• Support knowledge management and documentation efforts, including organizing and maintaining digital archives, reports, presentations, and learning materials on UNDP platforms;
• Assist in the logistical organization of events, workshops, and missions, in coordination with the project team and partners;
• Contribute to the visibility of project activities and results, by assisting in the implementation of the communication plan and coordinating with the Country Office communications team;
• Assist in the preparation of knowledge products and outreach materials (e.g., summaries of key project components, internal briefs, presentations, concept notes, etc .);
• Support the project team with programmatic, administrative, and financial tracking, in line with the annual work plan, results framework, and UNDP and donor procedures;
• Support youth-related activities through logistical coordination and contribution to awareness materials and documentation;
• Undertake other tasks as assigned by the supervisor in line with the implementation needs of the project.
